seventeen syllables about the humor, inspiration, and pain in running

About

I’m a public relations consultant who started running as something to do with my sister when she came to visit. My first race was the Ragnar Relay Northwest Passages – a 200 mile relay run from the Canadian Border to Langley on Whidbey Island. Heads turned when I sait out loud in the van, “Maybe I should have started with a 5K.” No regrets and nothing but great times. Fun enough for me to do it again the following year and now I look for races to do year round to keep running fun.

When I committed to my first race, I couldn’t run a mile. Since then I have done all kinds of runs, including a half marathon and look forward to many, many more. While training for my first race – the Ragnar Relay – I would think of running haikus in my head to distract my mind from whatever pain I was feeling. (I’m not sure it worked as many of them included four letter words.) Enjoy and feel free to post your own!

    Very cool site!

  3. I can’t tell you enough how happy I am to have stumbled upon your site. It might be my most favorite blog. Seriously. Love it!

    • I can’t tell you how happy I am you like it! It helps distract me when I run when I have trouble getting in a groove. Also helps me realize every day and every run is different – even if it’s the same old route.

Feel free to try your own! Either submit them in comments or email me at charla.neuman@gmail.com and I will attribute them to you.

Glad you enjoy them. Thanks for returning!

    • Btw, I love joggingjeans! I had no idea people actually ran in jeans. Now I’m dying to catch someone in the act and keep hoping someone will show up at a race wearing them.

Your haikus are hilarious. I am a dude though and a couple of them did not necessarily apply. I wrote one for you BTW, since you nicely stopped by, and I hav always enjoyed writing these things. They are never good though.

    Thank you Miss Haiku
    your visit was well received
    I will follow you

    • Thanks for the comment and especially the haiku! I think a lot of us could use a laugh after some hard exercise so I’m glad you can appreciate a sense of humor. I also get motivated by what other people do so thanks for what you do with your blog.

  7. Love that part about “Maybe I should have started with a 5k”!
